Education and Advocacy Summit

March 5-6, 2024, Washington, D.C.

The 8th Education and Advocacy Summit consists of three components:

  • Gallaudet University Tour and Luncheon for professionals, parents, and high school students (sponsored by Gallaudet University Welcome Center). Location: Gallaudet University Welcome Center, Edward Miner Gallaudet building.
  • Education Summit:
    • Professional Summit– Workshops for deaf education professionals and family members in the areas of policy, best practices, and innovation (sponsored by CEASD, American Society for Deaf Children, Office of the Chief Bilingual Officer at Gallaudet University, Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, and National Association of the Deaf). Location: SAC 1011 on Gallaudet University campus
    • Youth Summit– Workshops for high school students in advocacy and leadership (sponsored by Gallaudet University Deaf Studies Department, Government Department, Center on Democracy in Deaf America, and National Association of the Deaf). Location: Deaf Life Museum at Chapel Hall on Gallaudet University campus
  • Capitol Hill Advocacy Day- Legislative briefing on advocacy issues (for professionals, family members, deaf school alumni, and high school students), followed by pre-arranged meetings with Congressional representatives (hosted by CEASD and the National Association of the Deaf). Location: Capitol Visitors Center, CVC 217 (lower South side). Accessible by metro (Union Station)

 The purpose of those events is to promote awareness and advocacy on the behalf of deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind, and deafdisabled children everywhere in the United States, including but not limited to improving provisions in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
