As the Director of Elementary Education for Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD) you will be responsible for working in partnership with other departments at ASD, AIDB units, Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), etc. ASD is committed to meet our students where they are. The right candidate for this job will have a passion working with students and colleagues to ensure all students receive a world class education.

ABOUT YOU
You will play a vital role in the lives of our students and be a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB and ASD. This will be accomplished by overseeing transition services as well as demonstrating flexibility, positive attitude, agility, and professional maturity.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must possess an Alabama Teaching Certificate or be able to obtain reciprocity with the State of Alabama within six (6) months of employment.
• Must possess a Master’s Degree in Special Education, Deaf Education, or Educational Administration or Instructional Leadership from an accredited college/university.
• At least five successful years of teaching experience.
• Must possess HI Certification or be willing to gain HI Certification within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
• Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency (SCPI/SLPI) or take a sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI) available through AIDB.
• Must possess a sign language proficiency evaluation of INTERMEDIATE upon employment.
• Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess an Alabama Teaching certificate or be able to obtain reciprocity with the State of Alabama within six (6) months of employment with endorsements in Educational Administration and Deaf Education.
• Possess a sign language proficiency of ADVANCED upon employment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws concerning educational administration and programming, particularly as they relate to disabled individuals.
• Knowledge of current trends and issues in education.
• Must have or obtain Educational Administration and obtain an endorsement in Deaf Education and/or Special Education within thirty-six (36) months of employment.
• Obtain a sign language proficiency of ADVANCED within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
• Must complete and maintain behavior management training within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
• Assists the principal with the general administration, supervision, and management of the program unit including personnel, students (grades Pre-K -6), facilities, equipment, and fiscal responsibilities assigned.
• Provides administrative leadership to the faculty and staff assigned to the program unit which includes teachers, teacher aides, and volunteers.
• Supervises the maintenance of appropriate student records, supervises and reviews the preparation of student reports, evaluations, report cards, incident reports, student information system and etc.
• Manages state assessments in coordination with the Testing Coordinator.
• Provides leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum improvement within the program unit in coordination with other departments.
• Provides leadership in coordination with ASD Management Team to maintain a plan for continuous improvement as part of the AIDB Strategic Plan, Accreditation (COGNIA and CEASD), etc.
• Constantly reviews and the effectiveness and performance of each member of his/her staff. Assists and directs staff members in professional and personal development and improvement where needed. Complete performance evaluations on all staff.
• Documents and provides guidance to elementary school staff members related to any employment requirements/agreements made when hired (CDL/Bus Driver License, Specific Certification, Sign Language Proficiency, etc.)
• Determines prioritized departmental needs related to equipment, supplies, materials, etc.
• Manages departmental budget within budgetary allocations as per policies and procedures.
• Cooperate and communicate effectively and professionally all matters regarding the student, the department, the school, and AIDB, to parents, other teachers, administrators, support personnel and related school staff and the general public.
• Maintains the discipline and morale of students by carrying out the provisions of the ASD Student Handbook in a consistent and fair manner
• Serve as instructional leader in the development and improvement of instructional programs in Elementary Education at ASD including conducting observations and evaluations of staff in the department.
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

The ideal candidate would have a Master’s degree or higher in Education of the Deaf, Special Education, Educational Administration, Public Administration or a relevant field. The ideal candidate would hold an Administrator Certification issued in Texas or another state. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in supervision and management of educational programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing is required. A doctorate-level degree or Superintendent Certification is preferred. Background checks and fingerprinting are required for hire.

Parent Infant/School Age Outreach Specialist (Teacher of the Deaf) (ND) – North Dakota School for the Deaf

Qualifications:
*BA/BS in Deaf Education, Speech Language Pathology or credential in hearing loss.
*Valid or eligible for North Dakota Education Professional Certificate

Preference will be given to applicants with:
*Experience as a teacher of the deaf
*Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing children
*Knowledge of sign language

Job Summary:
*Provide home intervention programming for deaf/hard of hearing infants birth through age five
*Provide educational and consultation services to students birth to 21 who are deaf/hard of hearing

*Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education or related degree might be considered such as Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or Special Education with ability in or willingness to learn sign language.
*Valid North Dakota teaching certificate
*Ability to communicate with the deaf using various modes of communication including sign language and fingerspelling or willingness to learn sign language

TSDK- SS Registered Nurse 2 (TN) Tennessee School for the Deaf

Provides high quality of care for students at Tennessee School for the Deaf. School
nursing is a specialized nursing practice that enriches the well-being, academic
success, lifelong achievement, and overall health of students. School nurses serve
a unique role in the school community and oversee all school health services and
to promote health education. Research shows that healthy children are successful
learners, so school nurses advocate for the holistic approach of supporting the
physical, emotional, mental, and social health of students.

Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse
• Associate of Science RN or
• Bachelor of Science RN (BSN)
• Experience in pediatric or hospital setting preferred
• SLPI:ASL rating of Intermediate or above preferred
American Sign Language (ASL) sign classes and skill development support available

DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-time, exempt, 187 day position. The Speech and Language Pathologist works with children between the ages of 3 and 6 to provide necessary support services and enhance student’s speech and language development. A SLP provides instruction in speech and language production, speech reading, auditory training and the use (pragmatics) of spoken English. He/she is responsible for working with classroom teachers to provide a supportive program for students which meets their communication needs. Plan, prepare and present lessons to address individual student goals, working with the Director in guiding parents toward identifying their child’s strengths and weaknesses and in programming for them accordingly through the IEP process, attend in-service and departmental meetings to participate in decision-making and to maintain current knowledge in the field and to gain understanding of new techniques and methodologies in speech and language instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree with PA Department of Education Certification in Speech and Language Impaired, and Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is required. Master’s Degree with PDE certification in Speech and Language Impaired, dual certification in Hearing Impaired preferred. Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing children is also preferred.

hire is “Novice Plus.”

social skills, homework assignments and some tutoring may be involved. Individual must be of strong moral character,
enthusiastic, and work well with children is recreational activities. The applicant must be able to respond to a variety of
situations including emergencies. Prior experience working with deaf and hard of hearing children is helpful.
