Lecturer and Program Coordinator: Education of the Deaf

The Graduate and Professional Studies division of McDaniel College invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in and Program Coordinator for the Masters of Science in the Education of the Deaf, to begin October 2020.

The mission of Graduate and Professional Studies is to prepare culturally competent professionals committed to leadership in their field. Students are placed in the center of a community rich in the liberal arts tradition. An emphasis on the foundation of knowledge and critical decision-making based on current research, theory, and practice are central to our programs.

Duties: In consultation with the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies, serve as coordinator of the MS in Education of the Deaf, overseeing all aspects of the program, including creating and updating curriculum, scheduling and staffing courses, supporting program instructors and students, and assisting recruitment efforts by Admissions and the Office of Communications and Marketing Teach a 3-3 load, primarily Deaf Education Courses, with the possibility of some ASL teaching, depending upon enrollment.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field required, Ph.D. or Ed.D preferred. Two or more years of teaching experience required, preferably at the college level. Ideal candidates will provide evidence of experience in a P-12 public school system. Administrative experience is a plus.

Speech Pathologist II- 31113053

Provides speech, voice and hearing therapy for students with communicative disorders; designs and implements appropriate remedial therapy programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Administers and assess diagnostic evaluations for speech, voice and language disorders to students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf with communicative disorders.

Interprets test results and makes recommendations. Makes referrals to appropriate sources. Prepares reports of test results and recommendations and interprets and documents results. Serves as a member of various school teams including the Admissions and Release Committees (ARCs).

Collect, maintain and report diagnostic and progress monitoring data. Prepare reports and forms required by district policy and Special Education statues and regulations. Maintain compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and follow established Special Education program policies and procedures.

Assist in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP). Monitor IEP goals and objectives for speech and language therapy. Collaborate with classroom teachers and other related services providers in developing speech and language skills with students.

Maintain professional awareness of current literature related to providing speech and language therapy to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Performs other duties as assigned.

This position does not perform duties during the month of July. However, the annual salary is calculated to be distributed throughout 12 months/24 paychecks.

English Teacher (middle or high school)

Teach sensory impaired students in a state-mandated academic program.
Knowledge of the educational needs of deaf/hard of hearing and/or blind/visually impaired students.
Conduct and direct student learning experiences using written lesson plans that cover the requirements of the State with regard to the Florida State Standards and course descriptions
Use required instructional materials with fidelity to introduce and develop concepts
Develop and maintain a classroom management program
Identify/develop, implement, use, monitor and evaluate long and short term objectives based on students’ IEPs

Superintendent

The West Virginia Department of Education is currently accepting applications for the position of Superintendent, West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind:

Applicant must (a) hold a West Virginia professional administrative certificate endorsed for superintendent or be eligible for a first-class permit endorsed for superintendent and (b) possess at least three (3) years administrative experience that includes supervision and evaluation of staff. Concurrent with administrative licensure, Master’s degree required, Doctorate or other terminal degree preferred. Successful leadership at the state or county level will be strongly considered.

Specific ability and knowledge relevant to working with students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, low-vision or deaf-blind with strong consideration to applicants with at least 10 years of experience in a field related to the populations served by the WVSDB is preferred.

Fluency in American Sign Language or willingness to attain. The WVSDB Communication Policy requires that the Superintendent attain fluency at the Intermediate Plus level on the SLPI assessment within two years of hire. Extensive experience using technology devices and applications such as telecommunications (webinar), computers, software (fiscal software, database, online and learning management software, personal productivity software, word processing software, etc.), mobile devices, etc.

WI Department of Public Instruction Center Director – WI Educational Services Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

This position is a member of the DPI Special Education Team and reports to the State Director of Special Education. The Center Director will administer, supervise, and provide leadership for the operation of WESP-DHH including direct responsibility for the school program (WI School for the Deaf) as well as the outreach program. The Center Director’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the overall management of the Center that serves as a statewide educational resource to benefit all Wisconsin children who are deaf or hard of hearing. In addressing this statewide leadership responsibility, the director works collaboratively with the DPI Special Education Team to coordinate efforts and provide support in areas of shared responsibility.

Teacher of the Deaf

BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION:

This position reports to the Principal, School for the Deaf, and is responsible for providing standards-based instruction and support to K-12th grade learners who are Deaf/hard of hearing and who may have additional needs. Utilizes Colorado Academic Standards and benchmarks in establishing instructional goals; and provides assessments that monitor learner progress, in a safe and civil school environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Education or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university, with specialization in Deaf Education
Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State of Colorado, endorsed as a Special Education Specialist: Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing, or comparable endorsement

I. Job Summary

Provide curriculum and instruction leadership and administrative oversight to licensed/non-licensed staff and students and families at Metro Deaf School. Works collaboratively with all stakeholders and always acts in the best interest of meeting the needs of the whole child.

II. Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversee curriculum and instruction at Metro Deaf School.

Works collaboratively with the school’s Principal and the Executive Director on the administrative team for the school.

Oversee the scheduling and implementation of all state and district assessments for the school teams, including standards based assessments for some students.

Develop and plan all professional development and professional learning communities for staff.

Works with teachers/staff to ensure all IEP modifications and accommodations listed are implemented.

Serve as a curriculum leader and helps review current curriculum and identify curriculum needs in the school.

Develops and maintains a curriculum purchasing timeline for the school.

Be the instructional coach for all teachers and a resource to support instructional strategies.

Work in collaboration with the Executive Director and School Principal on providing informal feedback and coaching to teachers. Formal teacher evaluations will be conducted by the Executive Director and School Principal.

Support the school principal in implementing student discipline policies and procedures.

Participate in interviews as it relates to potential vacancies that need to be filled.
