Primary Priorities:
• Meet and work with diverse groups to promote equal access opportunities, identify unmet needs, and develop services
• Inform stakeholders about Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) updates and trends, solicit feedback on ODHH strategies, budgets, service delivery, and emergent initiatives
• Maintain relations and collaborative partnerships with national, state, regional, and local organizations
• Develop and finalize specific, written, short-term, and long-term strategies with realistic ODHH and program-specific goals and performance-based measures to address constituent needs, development of ODHH resource capacity, and demonstrate accountability
• Oversee the development, implementation, management, evaluation, and modification of programs through identification of constituency needs and service delivery gaps to satisfy unmet needs
• Work closely with Fiscal Officer to oversee all aspects of financial operations
• Develop and finalize the annual ODHH budget
• Build a team of staff with complementary skills and promote diverse and equitable hiring practices
• Provide control and direction for personnel functions to include compliance with personnel policies, approval of personnel actions, and training.
• Utilize federal and state statutes to design specific regulations, policies, guidelines, and procedures
• Oversee Information Technology operations that support ODHH including network administration, database, website, and desktop technical support

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to be successful in this role:
• Extensive knowledge in specialized service delivery systems designed to serve deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing constituents
• Previous experience working directly with the deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing population is preferred
• Demonstrated understanding of the various communication methods and auxiliary aids utilized by deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing individuals to ensure that government obligations to provide reasonable accommodations that meet statutory requirements
• Demonstrated understanding of the federal and state laws pertaining to people with disabilities
• General knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public, and business administration, including organizational, human resource, and fiscal management
• Strong leadership skill and ability to foster effective working relationships with stakeholders, staff, executive leadership, and the public
• Knowledge of (American Sign Language-ASL) and an array of communication skills with the Deaf and hard of hearing community.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, management, public administration, social services, deaf studies, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field and four years of supervisory experience and professional or management experience working with the deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing communities. Experience should include:
• Managing an operational budget
• Planning, formulating, and/or implementing policy
• Operating and/or managing service delivery
• Supervision, coaching, and mentoring of staff

Salary Range
12-month position: $58,030.39 – $65,530.39 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

Your Specific Responsibilities
The Assistant Principal serves as the instructional leader in the Deaf Elementary School. The incumbent of this position is responsible for assuring compliance with all federal, state, Board of Trustee and Administrative mandates, guidelines, and rules within their respective unit. Supervise and assist in the instructional program by visiting classrooms, conducting formal and informal observations, conducting individual teacher conferences, conducting departmental meetings, reviewing individual teacher’s lesson plans and to assure compliance with state adopted curriculum/course frameworks. Supervise and monitor student behavior, student behavior programming and student behavior plans. Gather and analyze data on student performance. Coordinate the completion of Individual Education Plans and communicate related issues and problems to the immediate supervisor. Review assessments, observe and provide professional input on specific children for purposes of class placement, identification of specific problems and referral for additional diagnostic or related evaluations. Participate in departmental meetings, student management team meetings, file reviews and student staffings when appropriate, prepare budget requests, and develop student/teacher schedules in a timely manner. Ensure coordination of activities with other programs i.e. residential, physical education, athletics, Health Care and related services. Ordering supplies, textbook and materials in a timely manner and manage budget allocations appropriately. Report needed building repairs and safety hazards to the appropriate departments. Serve as a positive professional role model for instructional staff and students. Supervise teachers, instructional assistants, secretary and other staff assigned to the work unit. Coordinate the development of an annual plan through a staff meeting process to develop goals and priorities that lead to quality instructional program, provides for the efficient use of fiscal and human resources, and efficient use of physical facilities. Participate in staff development activities training as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge in the instructional strategies related to the respective sensory impairment of the children within the instructional unit; Knowledge of acceptable/current administrative, personnel and student management techniques; Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications; Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of teaching; Knowledge of the principles of human learning, behavior and counseling; Knowledge of the principles and techniques of curriculum development; Ability to work independently; Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Ability to visually monitor students and staff; Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired in CPR. Ability to obtain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24.

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree or higher in related field. Current State of Florida educator certification in Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing K-12 or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire. Current state of Florida educator certification in Educational Leadership or School Principal or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire with the understanding that additional certification requirements must be completed within a specified period of time. Five years professional teaching experience with students who are deaf/hard of hearing.

If certifications noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time.

Additional requirements mandated by state/federal law and position responsibilities.

Sign Language Requirements
Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Advanced proficiency in sign language, within one year of hire.

Deaf Mentor for Shared Reading Program

Scope of Work:

The goal for a Deaf Mentor is to provide support and to increase the ability for families with a deaf child to learn about language and culture through the use of American Sign Language.

Duties/Responsibilities:

● Meet with assigned families once a week. Each visit shall be one hour in length.
● Complete a calendar of visits, lesson plans, and child progress monitoring and submit to the Coordinator of the Shared Reading Program once a month.
● Create quarterly reports that include the following:
○ demographics data;
○ cumulative number of complete home visit to date;
○ cumulative number of cancelled or not at-home visits;
○ list of all Deaf Mentor curriculum topics discussed;
○ observed family’s mastery of:
■ early visual communication mastery,
■ ASL vocabulary,
■ ASL expressive/receptive skills,
■ LDS quarterly score;
■ VCSL quarterly score.
● Conduct surveys:
○ Family Satisfaction Survey
○ Family Knowledge Survey
● Follow the curriculum as developed and designed for the Shared Reading Program.
● Serve as a facilitator for the family and child when it comes to learning about American Sign Language, Deafness, and Deaf Culture.
● Ability to work remotely as needed.
● Maintains confidentiality of family and student information.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.

The mental health therapist will value a multi-faceted approach involving strongly linked clinical and training efforts, consultation with the NTID campus community, mental health prevention/early intervention, multicultural values/awareness and collaborative campus connections. Required Qualifications

Qualifications: To be considered, an applicant must possess or have the ability to obtain an Iowa Teacher’s Certificate or the Career and Technical Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE)

Sign language fluency, experience working with the Deaf, and experience working with youth are strongly preferred.

Applicants must possess the ability to reach the level of sign language proficiency designated for the position within the time frame established by the School’s Sign Language Policy.
Iowa’s teaching licensing board offers options on industrial arts licensure.
• 5-12 Industrial Technology endorsement on secondary teacher license
o Completed a secondary education program and met all qualifications for a teaching license in the state where your degree was completed
o Completed 24 semester hours in industrial technology to include at least 6 semester hours in 3 different areas. See checklist found at: 5-12 Industrial Technology

The secondary science teacher position would require an Iowa teaching license with a secondary science endorsement: prefer endorsement #185 (5-12 All Science); will consider endorsement 151 (5-12 Biology); 152 (5-12 Chemistry); 153 (5-12 Earth Science); 1541 (5-12 Basic Science); or 156 (5-12 Physics).

The individual hired would also need to be willing to add the Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement. Additional endorsements are beneficial.
