Deaf Department Principal (FL) – Florida School for the Deaf and Blind

The Principal of the Deaf Department plays a vital role in providing effective educational leadership, ensuring the highly effective, successful implementation of programs, supporting student well-being, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive school environment aligned to FSDB Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Priority Goals.

• Assumes the crucial role of educational leader for the academic programs in the Deaf Department. Responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of both the general education curriculum and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support students’ diverse needs across all schools. Collaborates with the Parent Services Executive Director in handling state complaints. Establishes and oversees procedures that integrate academic, career and technical education, transition, and student support services, fostering effective communication within the decision-making process. Working under the guidance of the President, sets goals, objectives, and activities to provide quality, comprehensive services and educational programs aligned with the mission of the school, laws, regulations, statutes, policies, current research, and best practices related to curriculum, instruction, leadership, and professional learning.
• Sets performance expectations, supervises, evaluates, approves payroll, monitors the effectiveness of Educational Diagnosticians, School Counselors, Off Campus Coordinator for the DHS, ASL specialist, Coordinator of Deafblind Services, Associate Teachers, Coordinator of Student Conduct, Behavior Specialist and Assistant Principals through observations, conferencing, feedback, performance improvement plans, and evaluation. Coordinates and conducts staff meetings to develop goals and priorities that lead to quality instructional programs and delivery of services to students as well as foster communication and transparency.
• Actively participates in various teams and committees, such as the Continuous Quality Improvement Team, Academic Leadership Team, Behavior Occurrence Reporting Team, School Advisory Committees, President’s Advisory Team, Incident Command Team, and Care Team to monitor student threat assessments and bully/harassment reports. The Principal works closely with Instructional Services, Mental Health, Parent Services, Boarding Program, Admissions, and Related Services to support program effectiveness. Provide information, interpretation, and utilization of data to approve dual enrollment and off-campus programming. Collaborate with local colleges for practicum and internship placements. Works closely with the Assistant Principals of each school to ensure the integrity of their Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process. May serve as the President’s designee at admissions meetings.
• Maintains effective communication and professional relationships working closely with school administration team members, staff, students, parents and stakeholders. Addresses issues, facilitates conflict resolution, and engages with stakeholders, including parents, to provide support and solutions. In collaboration with Assistant Principals, oversees disciplinary actions in accordance with the parent student handbook.
• Plans, develops, writes, budgets, and approves spending of general revenue and private/endowment funding. Oversee the purchasing of materials and expenditures. Provides support to Assistant Principal for their department’s budget and spending.
• Regularly monitor teacher-student ratios and school data, making necessary adjustments and introducing new programs based on data analysis, school initiatives, state expectations, and student needs. Provide information, interpretation, and utilization of data to approve dual enrollment and off-campus programming. Collaborate with local colleges for practicum and internship placements.
• Participate in staff development activities training and perform other duties, as assigned.

Librarian (ND) North Dakota School for the Deaf

Summary of Work
Plan, conduct, and promote school-wide literacy events

Supervise the acquisition, processing, cataloging, preservation, appropriate shelving, and dissemination of library materials and adaptive equipment

Director of Special Education (KY) – Kentucky Department of Education

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Special Education will have a physical workstation at the KDE Sower Building in Frankfort, but will be present on each campus weekly, pending travel approvals. The Director of Special Education will oversee the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) at the Kentucky School for the Blind and Kentucky School for the Deaf while also providing support to students, families, and others. This position will also collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with the IDEA through improved outcomes for students.
KDE Level Activities
• Participate in the OSEEL leadership activities and events as directed by the Director of State Schools and / or OSEEL Associate Commissioner
• Participate in weekly OSEEL stand-up or office-level meetings
• Participate in OSEEL events as directed by the Director of State Schools and / or OSEEL Associate Commissioner
• Collaborate and partner with other OSEEL Division Directors and Branch Managers

Principal (KY) Kentucky School for the Deaf

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the administrative direction of the Associate Commissioner of the Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL) and the Director of the Division of State Schools, the Principal will provide leadership for planning, directing and coordinating the educational, residential, recreational, and vocational programs for all students.

In alignment with the expectations of the Commissioner and Kentucky Board of Education, the Principal will:

• Lead, guide, and direct every member of the administrative, instructional, and support services teams in setting and achieving the highest standards of excellence in educational programs and operating systems.
• Be responsible for a system of supervision and evaluation for all staff.
• Administer and oversee the use of all facilities, property, and funds in the best interests of students and the school. Participate in budget development and submit reports to the Kentucky Board of Education/Kentucky Department of Education.
• Coordinate instructional and curriculum development activities and coordinate school activities with related agencies such as colleges and universities, career and technical education and vocational rehabilitation.
• Oversee the residential student development program staff in program development and implementation.
• Oversee the food service program.
• Coordinate extra-curricular programs and extended classroom instruction in cooperation with the Student Development Supervisor/Director of Student Life.
• Assist in training of staff.
• Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures.
• Attend school meetings and other meetings, special events, and school-sponsored programs representing the school, work with parents/families, community groups and other education partners.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Administrative certification from the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board for the performance of school principal duties.
• Demonstrated successful leadership in working with students, staff, parents, and the general public.
• Three or more years of experience in curriculum and instruction development and implementation with direct experience assisting teachers and administrators in curriculum implementation required.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Experience in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education or American Sign Language (ASL) skills.

Executive Interpreter (TX) – Texas School for the Deaf

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of position: 12 month employee

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, performs highly advanced (senior-level) ASL interpreter work. Work involves interpreting or translating into English and/or American Sign Language. Duties may include but are not limited to interpreting during: meetings, interviews, counseling, emergencies, staff development, Governing Board meetings, conferences, and out of town assignments. The position requires flexible hours and the ability to travel to meet the needs of the Superintendent including nights and/or weekends as required. Must have reliable transportation and be able to respond and adapt to changing assignments in a prescribed time frame. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides interpreting services for the Superintendent and other stakeholders as assigned by the Superintendent.
Ensures a high quality of service with regard to interpreter services, skills, and adherence to TSD standards, local, state and federal regulations, as well as the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
Participate in large scale planning and other supervisory level meetings (i.e. SLC) as requested.
Attend planning meetings in preparation for big events.
Acts as a resource to faculty and staff on issues related to interpreting, CPC or refers them to sources where such information is available.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships as may be required by assignments.
Preps for assignments by reading and becoming familiar with technical vocabulary and content.
Enhances skills through continuing education and professional development.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent
BEI Level IV, V, or Master certification from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Board for Evaluation of Interpreters, or equivalent
Five years of interpreting experience
Two years providing interpreting services to an executive
Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) is ADVANCED.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Bachelor degree in a relevant field
Previous experience as an interpreter in an educational setting
Trilingual Interpreter (English, Spanish, American Sign Language) is preferred

Teacher of the Deaf / Spoken English-Preschool/Early Education Program (CO) Colorado School for the Deaf

Performs work associated with facilitating developmentally appropriate instruction and support to children and their families: perform student assessments and identify family needs for instruction and/or support, lead and contribute to the development of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for assigned students and their families, prepare and implement instructional activities with necessary accommodations based on the IEP, coordinate with other agencies involved with the family.
