Dean of Students (MN) Metro Deaf School
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
In collaboration with the School Principal
Directly responsible for student discipline, parent contacts, student corrective action plans, behavioral IEPs, follow up and state reporting.
Assists with coordinating staff development activities and continuing ed. credits as it relates to behavior plans and schoolwide behavior efforts.
Assists with planning for ESY if assigned.
Attends weekly Team Meetings and PLC meetings.
Serves as Admin. Designee for IEP and Re-eval meetings (as assigned).
Assists with annual data collection as it relates to student performance (accountability) and end-of-the-year surveys, etc.
Direction and Coordination of the following student activities
Provides input to social activities designed to correct student behavior and collaborates with psychologists and social workers to assist with implementation of plans.
Works directly with teaching staff to assist in better understanding of student behavior and how to reinforce positive behavior; follows through on all behavioral issues.
Works directly with parents/county when attendance problems arise.
Oversees attendance and grade postings to ensure communication is timely and appropriate for students and parents.
Collaborates with all employees in providing a positive school environment for those students that have difficulty with temper control, personal crises, family conflicts, interpersonal relationships.
Serve at the McKinney Vento coordinator for MDS.
Follows required due process procedures and coordinates individuals involved when the student’s program needs modification in order for the student to succeed.
Coordination and Oversight of the following student/school activities
Work with the Student Life Coordinator and the Athletic Director in monitoring and communicating grades for athletic eligibility.
Ensures clear communication of school-wide events is occurring.
Supports the Principal working with Student Council Advisors and/or Parent Educator re: School wide family events, Team events, student nights, etc., including Senior Graduation.
Oversees annual fall bus safety training with all grades (as per state directive) and the school’s van use (rules governing such) by students/staff.
